PEARLS (Program to Encourage Active Rewarding Lives) is a participant-driven, brief, and time-limited program specifically designed to empower older adults. Tailored to individuals aged 60 and above, PEARLS is a no-cost coaching initiative aimed at educating participants about depression and equipping them with the necessary skills for self-sufficiency and a more active lifestyle.
Our Approach |
The program comprises six to eight one-on-one sessions, conducted over a course of 4-5 months, held in a comfortable community setting. These sessions focus on brief behavioral techniques, emphasizing practical strategies that can be readily applied in daily life. Coaches within the program adopt a proactive approach, concentrating on addressing issues in the present rather than delving into past experiences. By providing guidance to manage unpleasant feelings and fostering wellness through active engagement, PEARLS aims to promote resilience and enhance the overall quality of life for older adults. Regardless of their specific mental health challenges, any senior seeking to achieve wellness can find value and support in the PEARLS Program. |
Understanding Mental Health in Older Adults

As we age, our mental health becomes just as important as our physical health. Older adults face unique challenges that can impact their mental well-being. Mental health issues are not a normal part of aging, but they do affect a significant portion of older adults, including conditions such as depression, anxiety, and cognitive impairment, which are prevalent and often go unrecognized. Many older adults may not seek help for mental health concerns due to stigma or the belief that it's a natural part of aging, leading to underreporting and undertreatment of these issues.
Mental health is closely linked to physical health in older adults. Chronic illnesses, pain, and disabilities can exacerbate mental health issues, while poor mental health can negatively impact physical health outcomes. Older adults are at risk of experiencing loneliness and social isolation, which can significantly impact mental well-being. Lack of social connections and meaningful relationships can contribute to depression and anxiety. |
